Cutting-edge biotechnological advancement in islet delivery using pancreatic and cellular approaches

There are approximately 1 billion prediabetic people worldwide, and the global cost for diabetes mellitus (DM) is estimated to be $825 billion. In regard Type DM, transplanting a whole pancreas or its islets has gained attention of researchers in last few decades. Recent studies showed that islet transplantation (ILT) containing insulin-producing ? cells most notable advancement cure DM. However, this procedure been hindered by shortage lack sufficient donors need long-term immunosuppression any potential graft rejection. The strategy encapsulation may avoid rejection stem-cell-derived allogeneic xenogeneic islets. This review article describes various biotechnology features encapsulation-of-islet-cell therapy humans, including use bile acids.
